Position Overview:

The Web Developer will be responsible for building, maintaining, and improving the university’s websites, portals, and web-based applications. This role ensures functionality, performance, and security across all online platforms to support academic, administrative, and student services. The developer will work closely with web designers, software team, IT support team, and stakeholders to deliver reliable and innovative web solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Web Development & Maintenance:

  • Develop and maintain the university’s websites, student portals, and other web applications.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using modern web technologies.
  • Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility with responsive frameworks.
  • Maintain and improve existing servers, applications and troubleshoot issues promptly.

2. Application Integration:

  • Integrate web platforms with university systems (student information systems, LMS, etc.).
  • Implement APIs and data exchange between internal and third-party systems.
  • Work with databases (MySQL/NoSQL) to build dynamic, data-driven applications.

3. Security & Compliance:

  • Implement best practices for web application security (e.g., OWASP standards).
  • Ensure compliance with IT security policies.
  • Regularly patch, upgrade, and monitor applications for vulnerabilities.

4. Collaboration & Support:

  • Work closely with web team and software team to ensure functionalities of applications.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative units to develop new features and tools.
  • Provide technical support for faculty, staff, and students regarding web applications.

5. Performance Optimization & Quality Assurance:

  • Optimize websites and applications for speed, scalability, and reliability.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and optimize applications for maximum performance.
  • Conduct testing (unit, integration, and user acceptance) before deployment.
  • Monitor system performance and provide timely enhancements.

6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated with emerging web technologies and frameworks.
  • Recommend and implement new features to improve user engagement and experience.
  • Explore automation opportunities to streamline university operations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in website development and hosting management.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining large-scale websites.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Experience in front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and modern frameworks (Bootstrap, Tailwind).
  • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks and libraries (jQuery, React, Vue.js).
  • Experience with server-side languages such as PHP with strong OOP skills
  • Solid knowledge of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL).
  • Strong understanding of MVC architecture and version control systems (Git).
  • Experience with CMS platforms (Modx, WordPress or custom-built systems).
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and integration with third-party systems.
  • Knowledge of server environments, Nginx, and Apache configuration.
  • Experience in working with authentication and authorization mechanisms
  • Strong understanding of web security practices, including protection against XSS, CSRF, SQL Injection, and other vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of web security practices and compliance standards.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with server-side caching, Redis, and Memcached.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and web performance optimization.
  • Experience working in a university or large enterprise environment.
