Position Overview:

The Web Designer will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing the university’s websites and digital platforms. This role ensures a professional, user-friendly, and accessible online presence that reflects the university’s brand, supports academic and administrative functions, and provides a seamless experience for students, faculty, staff, and external visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Website Design & Development:

  • Design and update university websites, portals, and microsites with modern, responsive layouts.
  • Ensure consistent branding, typography, and visual standards across all digital platforms.
  • Develop graphics, icons, banners, and multimedia content for web and digital use.

2. User Experience (UX) & Accessibility:

  • Design intuitive navigation structures and layouts to improve user engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG) to serve diverse users.
  • Conduct usability testing and incorporate feedback into design improvements.

3. Content Management:

  • Manage and update content using the university’s CMS.
  • Optimize images and multimedia for web performance and accessibility.
  • Support academic and administrative departments with content updates.

4. Collaboration & Support:

  • Work with IT developers and system administrators on web integrations and enhancements.
  • Provide design and UX support for internal applications, student portals, and faculty dashboards.
  • Assist with digital marketing campaigns, event pages, and e-learning interfaces.

5. Quality Assurance & Security:

  • Test websites across multiple browsers and devices for compatibility.
  • Ensure compliance with IT security and privacy standards.
  • Regularly review and update outdated designs or broken layouts.

6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on modern web design trends, technologies, and tools.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance digital communication.
  • Explore creative features such as interactive elements, virtual tours, and event pages.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 4+ years of professional experience in web design.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating web design projects.

 

Technical Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive design frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Tailwind).
  • Experience with CMS platforms (Modx, WordPress, or similar).
  • Knowledge of UX/UI design tools (Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements and user needs into effective design solutions and convert PSD to HTML/CSS.
  • Exceptional aesthetic sense, attention to detail, and typography skills.
  • Understanding of web accessibility (WCAG standards).
  • Basic familiarity with SEO principles and web performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility and mobile-first design.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
  • Creative thinking with problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with web analytics tools (Google Analytics, Search Console).
  • Knowledge of web security best practices.
  • Exposure to higher education or large organizational web environments.
  • Ability to design digital assets for social media and internal communications.
