Research Associate (Quantitative)


Position Summary:

The Research Associate will support the Global Health Institute (NGHI) in conducting high-quality research on pressing public health issues at national and global levels. The position involves designing and implementing research studies, analyzing data, writing scientific reports, supporting grant applications, and contributing to the institute’s capacity-building and policy-advocacy activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, planning, and execution of research projects in global and public health.
  • Conduct literature reviews, policy analyses, and systematic reviews to support ongoing research.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze quantitative data using appropriate software and tools.
  • Prepare research reports, manuscripts, presentations, and policy briefs for academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Support faculty and senior researchers in writing grant proposals and project reports.
  • Liaise with national and international collaborators, stakeholders, and funding agencies.
  • Mentor and guide research assistants, interns, and students involved in research projects.
  • Contribute to workshops, seminars, and training programs organized by NGHI.
  • Perform any other research-related tasks assigned by the Director/Principal Investigator.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree (MPH, MSc, or equivalent) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Global Health, Biostatistics, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of relevant research experience (academic or project-based).
  • Strong knowledge of research methods, study design, and ethical guidelines.
  • Proficiency in statistical and data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R).
  • Excellent scientific writing, presentation, and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in grant writing, peer-reviewed publications, or conference presentations.
  • Familiarity with health systems research, implementation research, or global health challenges.
  • Prior work experience in NGOs, universities, or research institutions.

Director, Global Health Institute (NGHI), North South University.
